Halong Bay: Cuisine and Speciality foods

No trip to Halong Bay would be complete without sampling some of the fresh seafood on offer. For those taking a cruise, the agency will ensure that  some of the finest local food is available for guests to consume whilst aboard. For those staying in a hotel at any point, there is also the option to eat at a number of restaurants of your choice, as well as that of the hotel itself.

The abundance of seafood caught from the Bay provides a fantastic opportunity in which to sample the plentiful harvest of the clear waters. Here is a small selection of what’s on offer;

Chả Mực (squid sausage), often served with Xôi (boiled rice, sticky rice) or Bánh Cuốn (a type of thin, steamed rice cake).

Ngán wine, made from a species of venus clam mixed with rice wine.

Grilled horseshoe crab, or horseshoe crab in any one of its many forms; crab salad, sweet and sour crab legs, fried crab, stir-fried crab, crab sauté…the list is endless!

For those with a taste for luxury, there’s also fresh lobster, and for the adventurous traveller who’s looking for something a bit different, try fried sea snails with chilli oil.
